At the end of January, I brought home my new four-legged baby: a two-year-old runty Belgian Malinois I quickly started calling “Booger”. Most of the time, I refer to him as my service dog, because that’s what he is (when we’re out and about). But in reality, he’s my pet, he’s my baby, he’s my whole world.
It’s only been a couple of months, but like anything important, it didn’t take long for his presence to have a profound effect on my daily routine, and general life outlook.
-
The park is a great place to make new friends.
-
Greet strangers with enthusiasm. Maybe they’ll be friendly.
-
Anything can be a toy if you try hard enough.
-
Stop to smell the flowers. And the bushes. And the trees. And the fire hydrants. And the corners of buildings. Stop to smell everything.
-
Exercise is important. Run around for a bit.
-
If you want something, claim it.
-
Trust your instincts.
-
Even if it feels like they’re gone forever, the ones who love you will always come back.

Cuteness! I so very much miss that extra spark of joy that comes of having a dog in one’s life.

I’ve missed it too! I grew up with dogs but have only had cats for a few years… it’s nice having such unabashed joy around again. 🙂

I grew up with dogs too. The hardest thing about moving into a place of my own was not having a wagging tail to greet me every day. Sadly it’s hard to find pet-friendly rentals around here so I’ve been dogless for far too long. But we’re hoping to change that sometime in the next couple of years. 🙂
