Atlas Sighed

Atlas held the earth no more.

His mighty arms shake,
His powerful legs trembled.
His back aches, his shoulders quake.
He wanted to hold the earth no more.

“What about me?” he roared
at the tiny people on the sphere he held.
“Since the dawn of time I’ve been ignored,
Carrying this land on which you dwell.

My hands are sticky with blood you’ve spilled
And they hurt from the debris.
The planet reeks of decay,” he yelled.
“You’ve made it too vile for me.”

So Atlas dropped the earth
and watched it tumble from the sky.
Atlas shook his mighty head
And released a Titan sigh.

Atlas began to fade away
Without a planet to hold.
He closed his weary eyes and
Atlas was no more.
